For Like a Lion, ministry begins with relationships. Through consistent, caring adults who show up year after year, students are known, loved, and encouraged to discover the purpose God has for their lives.
This year, Kaleo’s $27,000 grant is helping fund a portion of Like a Lion’s program coordinator’s salary, as well as wages for its part-time summer staff. Together, these staff members make the ministry’s relational mission possible by showing up each day to invest in students and build lasting connections.
One former third-grade camper, now a college student and junior staff member, is a beautiful example of the long-term impact of this ministry.
Her journey with Like a Lion began in 2018, when she attended summer camp as a third grader. She stayed connected to the program, building relationships with staff who knew her, encouraged her, and walked alongside her as she grew. Over time, Like a Lion became more than a program—it became a place of belonging, support, and growth.
Today, after completing her first year of college, she has returned for her third summer as a staff member.
Because Like a Lion has built a close relationship with her, they have had the privilege of watching her grow into the young woman God created her to be. They have encouraged her through different stages of life, helped her prepare for college, and walked with her as she stepped into adulthood—including conversations about budgeting and how her saved funds could best support her next steps.
Like a Lion’s relational approach is also reflected in another one of its teachers, whose warmth and genuine interest have earned the trust of her students. Even during free time, many choose to gather near her, sharing their challenges and seeking her encouragement. Her consistent presence has helped create the kind of belonging that keeps students returning.
“Our staff are the vessels of our relational mission. They show up each day with heart, consistency, and a genuine desire to know and serve our students well. Their faithful presence allows trust to grow and deeper relationships to form.”
—Like a Lion Staff
Together, these two women show the value of relationships built over time. The staff earn students’ trust through consistent relationships, providing encouragement, guidance, and a sense of belonging.
Your generosity through the Kaleo Giving Circle makes stories like these possible. Because of your faithful support, Like a Lion can invest in staff who build lasting relationships with students—relationships that help children experience the love of Christ and become the people God created them to be.
Prayer Focus
Please pray for wisdom and strong community for Like a Lion’s three junior staff members as they step into the next chapter of their lives, and for the staff as they prepare for another year of after-school ministry.
